Life gives Savitri a second chance…

Life gives Savitri a second chance…

Life gives Savitri a second chance…

Sometimes life gives us a second chance. It’s left upto us to seize the moment and make the most of opportunities that come our way. Savitri Saharia, aged 23 years, is a resident of Karvari Khurd village in Baran district of Rajasthan, and a beneficiary of the Second Chance Education Programme.

Savitri was married off at the tender age of 18, due to which she was forced to quit school when she was in class 8. Her husband Bharat died after few months of marriage. This was a big blow for Savitri, but her family was persistent that she married again. Savitri was forced to marry her husband’s younger brother Lakhan Lal with whom she has two children who are currently going to school.

Life took a turn for the better, when the Second Chance Education Programme came to Baran district in September 2019. Savitri came to know about the programme and enrolled immediately.

Her husband supported her decision and helped her complete formalities for enrolment in class 10 through NIOS (open university). The ‘second innings’ of Savitri was fuelled by her zeal and enthusiasm to excel. She understood the value of education and was committed to ensure that her children shouldn’t face the same issues that she did. She says, “The initiative will give me the confidence to face today’s competitive world. Thank you for a second chance at life.”.
