Pushpa’s License To Freedom

Pushpa is a mother of three from Zawar, Rajasthan. In 2016, she joined a Self-Help-Group, thanks to Manjari Foundation’s intervention in her village. Having studied till class 5, she was assigned the task of a bookkeeper. In 2018, her husband who worked in a hazardous mine developed silicosis and passed away suddenly. “Had I not joined the SHG, what would’ve been the plight of my family?” says Pushpa. The tragedy however didn’t deter her spirit. She started learning to drive and soon became good at it. Today, Pushpa is driving a Hindustan Zinc vehicle and earning a handsome Rs.13,000 monthly salary. “I need not worry about finances anymore. I am confident in looking after my family’s needs and making sure that my children get a good education,” she says. Pushpa hopes that one day they will secure government jobs and make their mother proud!
